I was so looking forward to seeing this movie. I loved the first two and bought the DVDs as soon as they came out. This one, however, left me feeling a bit cold due to it's lack of character development. The movie was much shorter than the other two and had many more characters to deal with. The movie seemed to move from one fight scene to the next w/o much meaningful dialog other than to set up the next fight.
Although I thought the special effects were top notch, there were many things I did not like about the movie:
Rogue's decision to go for the cure seemed forced and was not played out enough.
The opening mutant training scene was not necessary. Was it really just a set up to show they could use teamwork in the end fight scene??
Mystique, my favorite character, made an early exit after getting dumped by Magneto. She could still prove useful, even without her shape shifting powers.
Many of the mutant extras were unfamiliar to people who grew up reading the X-men comics. Quill?! Arclight? Is she a man in drag, a woman, or was she named after a theater chain?
Why was Juggernaut there? And why were his powers affected by the other mutant? His powers are magic based, not mutant. There are many other villainous mutants they could have used as muscle...The Blob, Psylocke, Avalanche, Pietro...
Most of the other adults I have spoken with agree with me that there was very little character development in this film. I have a feeling that the ones raving about it are younger action junkies with less discriminating tastes.
