I hope there isn't another thread like this hiding out somewhere (I looked everywhere, I promise).
I admit it: I love poetry. I love to read it, analyze it, write it, share it....etc. I just think it'd be nice to have a thread for fans and writers of poetry to talk about poetry and even share some of their work. So don't be shy, if you have some poetry that you wouldn't mind sharing, I'm sure we'd all love to read it. If you prefer reading poetry, this could be a good place to discuss our favorite poets as well.

Hey oldfriend,
Thank you so much for making this thread. Yeah, I love reading poetry and writing them too. Some of my favorite poets are Shakespeare (even though it's hard to quote him), Emily Dickinson, Emerson, Constantine Cavafy, Rumi, and yes, even that master of painting and sculpture himself, Michaelangelo.
Here is a poem that I wrote that I want to share whoever is interested in reading it. Now it maybe a bit racy for this forum, but what the heck. It is called...
Desire
So what lurks in our hearts, The fire that churns inside, Turning a spark to love like butter -Sweet and creamy.
You let me sample from you Was it out of generosity? Or curiosity? No matter what the reason or meaning, It quenched our own longings.
There's no turning back, No time to recoil. Deeper as it goes, To the chasm of our souls.
Anyway, that's it. So who wants to share next?

I'm glad you shared, it's well written.
It's a bit rique I suppose, but not too much for the forum. It's not like you used graphic details. Do you have any more?
Here's one of mine, nothing great but oh well:
On the Rudeness of the Mind
The falling leaves, foreshadowing Of what the coming months will bring, The warmth each passing day will pare. A chill will soon fill up the air.
And I who lie awake, confined. Consumed by hauntings of my mind And, at this moment, such a curse That from the brain can’t be dispersed.
The pounding hammer of my heart Shall surely beat itself apart. This quest for peace is but for naught. With every second, comes a thought.

I've gotten three poems published (through various internet contests) I'll have to go get the books their in and type them, but I am lazy right now.
*Modified*
Here is the one that I got published through poetry.com:
Just Dream Do you dare to dream, Past the realm of realty? To let your mind wander, Your spirit soar, Across the vast expanse, Of space and time. To reach beyond, All possible limits, Into the world of imagination, So lies the dreamer's fate. The dreamer's course lay uncharted. For freedom allows the dreamer, To do what the dreamer does best, Just dream.

Hey Oldfriend, Thanks and I like yours too a lot and I think it's great and well written as well. I like Jubilee's as well (Congrats Jubs for getting yours published). Well, I have one that I wrote a while back but it's kind of long and a bit personal. But I will write the first part and leave the rest out but you'll get the sense of it at least, or at least I hope you do. Whisper
It was a whisper in the night that caught me, waking me up from a restless sleep. I awoke, breathing heavily, dazed and bewildered. I pondered what it might be; The Oracles prophecies, I felt my burning chest, the heart inside in a tremor, My mind willed it to stop. But the soul has other plans. Then, in a moments panic. You entered the room. As I gaze upon you, Bathed in perfect light. I noticed my heart stopped briefly. Like a breath of fresh air, Gasping for more.

I absolutely love your poem by the way! I only had one published on poetry.com. I wrote it almost 5 years ago for a high school class and my teacher talked me into sending it in so i did. It's a bit dark, but here it is, and in case anyone starts to think I'm obsessed with rhyming, most of my poems don't rhyme, just the first two i posted happen to. :: NOT QUITE A LULLABY
The darkest of dark is what I see. This feeling of falling eternally, Is all that I can identify, And the fear I feel I cannot deny.
And then I come to realize I’m surrounded by the many eyes Of all the things I fear inside This isn’t quite a lullaby.
The voices, once again I hear, Attempting to make me submit to this fear. But there is one thing that they must know. I’ll never ever let it show.
The feeling changes rapidly. It becomes a whole new anxiety. And as I’m about to fall for the scheme, I awaken and realize it’s just a dream. ------------------------- also, heraldofgalactus, your last poem you posted is fantastic. I'm glad I made this thread because everyone who has shared their work has made it worth while. ;D

Oldfriend thats intense...seriously I really like it.
Here is my favorite poem, I did'nt write it I found it on the net a wile ago.
If I could have just one wish, I would wish to wake up everyday to the sound of your breath on my neck, the warmth of your lips on my cheek, the touch of your fingers on my skin, and the feel of your heart beating with mine... Knowing that I could never find that feeling with anyone other than you.

Oh yes I love writing but I am exactly like you, never finish the things I start, specially long things. So I just write for fun. I just recently wrote a story for a comic. I wrote the begining of the story, so now Im illustrating the comic myself. It's begining to look really good. I will post it in the fan art section soon, when I am finished illustrating the part I wrote, and done coloring. Also me and my friend do homemade movies, which are really funny. We call ourselves J-N-S Productions. Well we have done a couple of movies with no planning. So this time I actually wrote a script for our next X-MEN movie. It's really good, I dont know when we'll be filming it, hopefully soon. Here is the link to one of the X-MEN movies we made, Im Nightcrawler by the way. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIj16ARwUwk&search=mystique%20vs%20x-men

hmmm, never thought of writing about X-men.... ;D
here's one from a couple of years ago (these are really starting to bring back some memories):
i won't let go this gamble, it's neverending the gales of autumn welcome me but the sorrows intervene and where are those melodies i'm begging for?
it's all too familiar hiding behind my own shadow thoughts are mirrored by another's but the door is shut and this chapter is getting old
these eyes have watched novas brighten but also watched as they dimmed the search for a star that won't fade, it's neverending maybe the stars aren't ready for this sky...

Does it come naturally for you? As for me, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. But I guess, that's part of life. Again thanks for starting this forum. I'm enjoying it a lot. ***note: I'm on my knees and bowing -lol. Peace.

OKay it's kind of a song I wrote a week or so ago, but yeah... lol
-Make Believe
What does your heart Tell you to do? Do the things that you see Things that you see decieve you? Do the thoughts that you think Thoughts that you think believe you? What does your heart Tell you to do?
Do not trust the things you see Let what you believe guide you Soar along the wings of the forgotten And change the world around you
Let it go Let it all go Sanctify the burial mound And make believe that they Make believe that they never left you And carry their spirits away Set them free Set them all free
Do not trust the things you see Let what you believe guide you Soar along the wings of the forgotten And change the world around you
What the eyes see Is only make believe What the ears hear Is only what is near What the eyes see Is only make believe What the eyes see Eyes see
Do not trust the things you see Let what you believe guide you Soar along the wings of the forgotten And change the world around you
