I created a poll early last year asking everyone what their most anticipated films of 2007 were. Well, it's almost mid 2008 now, so looking back...did the movies live up the hype? Where there any that surprised you? Which ones were your favs? I decided to try as best as possible to make a Top 10 list from last year. You don't
have to list if you don't want to, but let's talk about the movies that rocked in 2007!
10. Sweeney Todd - Tim Burton at his finest, and this time directing a musical. I never thought I'd hear Johnny Depp sing like that, but he pulls it off!
9. The Number 23 - This movie surprised me, because I had no idea what to expect. I didn't have high hopes with Carrey in a serious role, and as it turned out, he got the job done!
8. 300 - Talk about a movie that just plan rocked. This one was hard-hitting from the start. If you want to watch a movie that will get you pumped up and ready for battle, then this is the one for you. "This is Sparta!"
7. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - Now I put this one on here almost reluctantly. My mistake I made was re-reading the book just before seeing the film. It made me notice how much was changed and left out. Overall, a decent adaptation, just not as good as some of the earlier films.
6. Pirates of the Carribbean 3 - Say what you want to about this one, but I thought it was pretty entertaining. The ending threw me for a bit of a loop, but other than that, it rounds out an exciting trilogy.
5. 28 Weeks Later - This was the best horror movie to come out in 2007, bar none. This one was freaky and intense the whole way through. A step down from the original, but not too much at all.
4. Transformers - You knew this one would be on here, so no surprises. It had some useless cheese I could do without, but kudos to Michael Bay for the job he did on this one. Bring on the sequel in 2009, my friend!
3. Juno - What can I saw about this one? There are far too many amazing quotes, and my oh my Ellen Page is amazing in this. Just do yourself a favor and check it out. 'Nuff said.
2. Spider-man 3 - This movie was my most anticipated one of 2007. Now, I believe it delivered for the most part, but I can understand some people's disappointment in it. I can't blame Raimi, but instead I blame Marvel for forcing him to include a certain villian who should have been saved for his own film...but we all know about that one.
1. Across the Universe - This was a film I was not expecting at all heading into 2007, and I certainly wasn't expecting it to top off my list! I saw a preview for it and I still wasn't convinced, but when I saw the film....wow. I suppose if you don't like the Beatles, this film might not be your cup o' tea, but trust me. There needs to be more movies like Across the Universe. It cannot be described, so just go see it.
