I must admit, I disliked "X-Men: The Last Stand". I didn't like the lack of character development, felt there were too many characters, disliked Rogue's small role, didn't like that three main mutants were cured and loathed that Jean Grey and Cyclops both died in this film. Cyclops's off-screen death in particular had me the most upset, because he's always been my favorite X-Men character.
But there's one thing I've never been able to learn was if this so-called "alternate ending" was real or not. I do not remember where this news originated, but I do remember reading it several times before and after the film was released. I hope someone here knows what I'm about to talk about.
Apparently, at screenings for the movie before or during its theatrical run (can't remember which), I remember reading another alternate ending was shown. From what I recall, the description was this:
After the final battle and after Magneto's chess scene (though who in the heck plays chess with METAL chess pieces?), we see the end credits. After the credits, though, we see a hospital bed. But it's not on Muir Island. It's in Alkali Lake. A doctor comes in, asks a nurse how long the patient's been hurt like this, and she says he was just brought in. The patient is revealed as an unconscious Scott Summers, very much alive but hurt and, from what I remember, singed from what Jean did while kissing him (so apparently, he wasn't disintegrated, but he was burned? Yeah, I don't get it either). And yes, it is in fact James Marsden as Scott, apparently done when he was either filming or as a reshoot during the time of his photoshoots in his X-Men uniform for posters and stuff. I forgot which. Anyway, while he is unconscious, Scott twitches, his shut eyes flutter a bit and Jean's voice whispers in his head, I think whispering his name over and over. The doctor goes to check on Scott, he turns on a flashlight to look at Scott's pupils and he tries to open his eyes. But before the doctor can examine his patient, Jean's voice suddenly stops, Scott regains consciousness, gasps as his eyes open wide... and his optic blasts return. The screen goes red, and that's the end.
If this is true, then why wasn't it shown in theaters? Why wasn't it mentioned/included on the DVD? Or was it? I admit I've never seen the "X3" DVD or any of its deleted/alternate scenes.
I've heard people still mention having seen this ending and that it does in fact exist. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone seen it?
Thanks for your time,
Stuart
