I think X3 was pretty good! I just wished it would be a little longer beause the story was squeezed into such a short time.
Not many characters had a long part.

"Oh my stars and garters".
This statement is significant in two ways.
1.) It sums up my overall feeling for my favorite movie of all time. 2.) It was one of the many, many unexpected lines that made my heart jump with joy. Grammer said it perfectly.
Yep. I can honestly (no, really...honestly) say that X-Men: The Last Stand is my favorite movie of all time. Ever. Ever ever ever. I'm excited to spend all my allowence on movie tickets this summer, that's for sure.
The opening scene was mind-blowing. I really liked the effects used to make Magneto and Xavier look 25 years younger- especially with Magneto. I loved Magneto's "straight-out-of-the-comics" response to Mr. Grey's comment about Jean's 'illness'. It made me think directly of Kitty's comic recruitment, when both Xavier and Emma had to try to convince the Prydes that their respective schools were right for Kitty. I liked lil' Jean's display of raw power. I loved the camoes from Lee and Claremont. The casting for Jean's parents was perfect, although I'm too sure about the casting for young Jean. She was a bit too sassy for my tastes. Anywho, I really enjoyed the dialogue between Magneto and Xavier- very well played out. Excellent scene overall.
Young Angel's scene in the bathroom is one of my favorite scenes. Its so emotional, so 'communicative'- it can really speaks to everyone who has tried to change themselves to make them look like everyone else. The emotion from Worthington II is genuine, as is young Angel's own fear of his growing powers. The casting in this scene was nailed. Worthington II was the very image of a filthy rich CEO in New York. Young Angel, even at the tender age of, what, twelve or thirteen, perfectly portrayed a mutant playboy- he had great looks, a sturdy body, and great fear in his eyes. I applaud.
The Danger Room!! I loved that scene. Even though Wolverine saved the day (again), it showed some excellent team work, and set up a lot for future scenes. The powered-down DR looked exactly like it should have. MUCH better than Singer's original version, IMO.
Skip ahead a bit...
I loved the security-truck scene. My favorite part was Magneto smiling gloriously while tossing the trucks around like mere toys. Very stunning. I liked Mystique's manipulative personality, and how many times she morphed. Great effects. My favorite part though? Juggernaut- "Good, 'cuz I gotta pee". Its immature, childish, and completely unlike the comic version- but it added some much needed humor to that scene. I loved it.
I loved the scene at the mansion when they learn of the cure, expecially the tension between Wolverine and Beast. And the scene at Worthington Labs.
Skipping ahead...
I loved the forest scene. Perfect perfect perfect. It is a CLEAR and PERFECT reference to the last episode of TAS, where Xavier is dying and Magneto goes to recruit a whole new army of mutants. Any fan who didn't notice that cannot call themselves a fan! It was so obvious, so heart-warming!
Backing up a bit...
I really adored the scene with Cyclops and Jean. I know, I know. You guys are like 'how can he call himself a Cyclops fan? That scene was horrible!' Nope. It was everything I had hoped for. Cyclops had a proper send-off in my opinion. He died in the arms of his lover...whats a better way to die, guys? The had one last embrace, and that embrace meant everything to me. The 'take off your glasses' bit made me leap for joy. I knew it was coming, but nothing like this.
I liked Xavier's explanation of how Jean became the Phoenix, actually. It was sorta comic-related, but put a whole new twist on it. Sorta like the Ultimate version of Jean. No crazy trips to space. Just an overload of raw power. Really, really fantastic raw power.
Okay..now to my favorite scenes:
When I saw Mystique on the TV screen, turning in Magneto's whereabouts, my heart lept with excitment. I was so happy for her- she became my new favorite hero!
Next.
The thing with Multiple Man being the 'target' when the army came to destroy the camp was ingenious. I would NEVER have thought of that in a million years. Well done, Penn/Kinberg!
Next.
Phoenix Battle in Jean's House: Phenomenal. Absolutely breath-taking. I loved how it was SO similar to the original visit, yet completely different. I loved Magneto's attitude- he was so convinced that he could control Phoenix- but Xavier and I knew better. I liked how the Brotherhood and X-men tried to square off- and I liked how the X-Men got their butts royally kicked. Its good to show that you can't win every battle. Xavier certainly learned that. Okay, fine, I'll admit it. I can't believe I'm admitting it, but what the hell. Yes. I cried when Xavier died. Not all-out bawling, but I did have actual tears streaming down my cheeks. It was handled so beautifully. If Xavier was just blown to bits, I would have just shrugged it off. But he was ripped apart, piece by piece- and Wolverine and Storm showed a genuine reaction. No tough-guy stuff. It was the most emotional scene of the movie. And, in my opinion, the best.
Next.
I'm not sure if it was just my theatre, but the entire place litterally shook when Magneto moved the GG Bridge. My heart was pounding- I had already seen the scene, and it was that cool on TV/PC. But in the theatre...I was awe-struck. I nearly fell off my seat.
Next.
The final battle. I liked how Kativa died. She deserved to die that way, I think. The doctor with a needle to cure mutantcy, killed by a needle from a mutant. Perfect planning.
*hug*
*shlleeeek*
*dead*
I liked the Juggernaut/Kitty chase scene (I'M THE JUGGERNAUT BI*CH!- hilarious!). Kitty and Leech had an instant friendship, and I thought that was important. I liked Juggy's 'death', because the unstoppable force is even unstoppable to himself- nice way to go.
I adored Beast's fighting style. The move with the pole- SO Beast-like! He was agile, and a great fighter. Stunning. I didn't think the ol' Grammer had it in him.
I'm glad Storm and Callisto faced off in a beautiful fight. Colossus' leap made me leap with joy, and Wolverine's interaction with the limb-growing guy was hilarious. I liked the ice vs. fire battle, and iced-up, Iceman looked fantastic. Much better then Colossus, although, I'll admit, Colossus looked tons better than I thought he would.
I liked Wolverine killing Jean, just because Scott couldn't do it. I liked that they had interaction before it, and that he didn't just slice her.
My jaw literally dropped a hundred feet with Magneto was stuck with the cure. It made him a true Hitler- trying to build a master race of a group he wasn't even part of! I felt no pity for him- just amazement at the way it was handled- so beautifully.
Next.
Now, this is the scene that made me go absolutely crazy with joy. Magneto's sitting at a table, starring at a chess piece. I thought 'hmm...similar to X1 and X2..except he has no one to play with'. I thought maybe someone would come sit down to play with him, or maybe he would knock the chess set down. But when the chess piece moved ever so slightly- I had a mile-wide smile. It just tied the whole movie together. Such a perfect way to end the movie (well...kind of end... )
I had VERY few problems with this movie.
-I wish Jean would have been engulfed in flame or something when she died. The screen should have been spinning around her. And focus on her eyes exploding with fire. -When Mystique was cured, she just de-morphed (beatifully ). When Magneto was cured, he acted like he was gonna blow up. That was overly dramatic. There should have been more of a 'truama' look on his face/eyes than on his body. -I would have really liked Colossus to do more. He should have at least body slammed a few pawns at the final battle. Other than that, he was used well. -Jean should have flown. I didn't mind the lack of visible firebird, I just wish she could have flown through the skies.
More positive points I'd like to make
-Storm was portrayed perfectly. A tough leader, not afraid to get in your face in a serious issue. -I liked the Brotherhood line up. Especially Callisto. Even though those weren't her true powers, she used them well, and she wasn't over-powered. I would have liked Caliban to have been in it acting as her 'side-kick', telling her where mutants were and such. -Needless to say, all the casting was perfect. Even Bishop was cast perfectly! I mean, when a fan notices something so small like that, you know you did well! -Again, I loved the way Jean killed people. Not just 'poof, you're dead', but she actually ripped them apart molecule by molecule. -Wolverine was an important part, but didn't dominate the screen. -I liked how Angel saved his father. It showed the consequences of Angel's decision. If Angel hadn't run away, his dad would have been killed. -I liked Quill, Spike, and Psylocke the most of all the 'lesser' mutants. Especially Spike! He was a great surprise to me, and his effects and fighting style was a mix of Marrow and Spyke (from Evo). I liked how Quill was handled- how he killed Dr. Rao. Psylocke, although blade-less, did shadow-port. Great fan moment.
The final words:
I completely disagree with ANYONE who said this movie a.) is too short b.) has too many mutants c.) won't impress the fans d.) is worth anything less than four stars
Even though I watched/saw EVERY SINGLE clip and photo before I saw the movie, I was still [surprisingly] surprised at the entire thing. Even the clips I saw on my PC were nothing like what I saw on the big screen- they were cut differently, had extra words, etc. If anything, the clips I saw pre-X3 made the experience even better.
Overall, this movie was phenomenal. I'm going to see it again at least twice more, and will pre-order the DVD at first chance.
Mr. Ratner, I'm sorry that I ever lost faith in you. You have not only surpassed Singer in terms of talent, but you have surpassed my wildest dreams. This movie surpassed my expectations a few minutes into it. You didn't just make an X-Men flick. You made a movie that I will cerish forever. Thank you for directing the best movie to date.
Overall score: 9.5/10
Absolutely phenomenal.

Im my opinion it was a great film...8/10 stars its only problem being a choppy and short film....but i thought it was a good end to a trilogy...X1- introduction, X2- Furthur understanding of abilities and Characters, X3- the use of their powers, climax and resolution....the death of the characters made it seem like an ending to the trilogy....overall great film....albeit too short

i just had a things to say. what if the jean that came back (and was killed by wolvie) was actually the WHOLE phoenix, and the real jean was STILL in the bottom of the lake? then she could come back n stuff like that! also, when mystique handed over the info, do you think she was helping them because they were using multiple man? i mean she could of wanted to help mags and they set up the whole wild goose chase to lead the government off. its just a theory.

but then how would it have been made psyhical,it really wouldnt work, another body appearing from absolutely no were, makes it just as confusing as the cartoon, and besides,Famke is getting a bit,jut a bit,old to be playing such a young role, you really cant notice in X3 because she looked so damn good, but if X4 is made in another 3/4 years like X3 was, she aint gonna do it

so i was thinking well if it did move and Magneto has is powers back, he might not be evil ne more and prob changed his views.
remember he said ".... what have i done...?!?!?!"
plus if he wasnt evil y would the xmen just release him in human society. even if human, he could of still kept in jail for starting the whole mess in the first place. so it doesnt matter if Magneto got his powers back or not....

Finally saw the movie, and I feel a little let down. I enjoyed it yes, but it was too short of film for me and so many characters went completely unnoticed despite their amazing potential. Mystique's story wasn't fulfilled in my eyes, I would have liked to actually see her turn Magneto in rather than them spanning over to a clip of footage of her doing so. Rogue was horribly mis-used as usual even though we were promised that she would kick butt this time, she didn't, same old weak I wanna touch Bobby Rogue we have seen for the past two films. I felt the battle's were too fast, especially the ones between Storm & Callisto. But on a positive note the effects were amazing! the acting was solid, but in the end the quick duration & under character development is what hinders this film from being the great mammoth I had hoped. Some may say I am being picky, but I know what I wanted in an x-men film and on some levels it delivered, and on others it didn't. Overall I give it a 7 out of 10.
PS: Being that the movie is released and I have seen it and all. I think I'll be saying good-bye to the forum now. Afraid I have nothing more to discuss about the film being as it did not meet up to my expectations. So Good bye to all you guys ... oh and happy belated Memorial Day CHOW!

I have to say I had my problems with the film as I have with every film but for what it was it was Great. I would have like to see Jubilee , Rogue learn to except her powers instead of just curing them. Also Psylock could have used her little blade and killed someone. I also wanted to see a Tornado or two from storm. and of course actual Pheonix Fire. However the entire movie had me on the edge of my seat I loved it and was much better than some are portraying it to be.
Ps. Beast was done so well I think he was the only true perfect character in the movie. I would have loved to see a battle between Pheonix and Storm but that would have meant storm Dieing and I am a storm Fanatic. I would have also loved to see a battle in the mind between Prof X and Jean. Thanks.

Ok here's my views on the movie. As a comic book adaptation I think it was awesome. Obviously you can't stick 100% to the comics, 'cos non-X-men fans wouldn't get a lot of stuff and things would be too long and complecated to explain. I thought the explaination behind the phoenix was perfect for the films, it worked really well and was a lot better than some alien force. Phoenix in the film was amazing, and scary as hell. I thought the characterizations of Storm, Magneto, Wolverine, Phoenix, Proff-X, Beast and a few others were spot on. Storm in this movie was brillient, and I give big props to Halle Berry. I've never liked the character of Storm, or Halle to be honest. But Halle's portral of Storm in this film was great acting, and I really liked the characters, powers etc. A job very well done. I feel some of the Brotherhood were a let down, and were just in the film for the sake of it. What was up with Psylocke? She sucked, and I'd rather have no Psylocke, than a poor one. The deaths didn't bother me too much, they were really upsetting, but I feel they were justifyed. If there are future X-films, I don't want them to bring Phoenix back, it would be pointless. She'd either be too powerful, so no one else would have a point in the film and all other villans would seem rubish. Or they'd have to downplay her powers, which I think would be an insult the the Pheonix character in X3. On that note, if there's no Phoenix, they'd be no pont in having Cyclops. All he'd do in future films is complain about how Jean died, came back, tryed to kill him, then died again. Keep both of then dead and don't dishonor their memories I say. I'm not sure how I feel about Proff-X. I can see the point that killing him off would make viewers see how powerful and evil Phoenix was. But if they brought him back it would seem stupid and how would he have powers. The X-gene is genetic, so if he's in another body he wouldn't have them, would he? Also, it would seem pointless having X in a different body. A better idea I think would be for Storm in honour of Prof-X, Jean and Cyclops' deaths to take over the X-men and school. That would really develop her character and add to the greatness she was in the film. The only problem I have with the film was Rogue taking the cure, it seemed so pathetic. She didn't bother to talk things through with Bobby, she didn't get more powers. It sucked big time. I really think they messed up on that part. If Gambit is in future films, it will suck him not interecting with Rogue. The only hope I have is that the cure is short term. Which it seems so, because of the end when Magneto was moving the chess pieces. Also what was up with the swearing? I didn't see the point in it at all. On the whole, I thought it was a very good film, with the exception of the characterization of most of the Brotherhood and Rogue taking the cure. I can also see that future films could work and with new characters. I think it will open it up to use new plots and make it more interesting. Well, I'm done with my review-rant type thing. If anyone wants to argue any points I made, feel free to. After all, everyone has different opinions.
Edit: Cycolossus: I've just read your review. Every single word you said was spot on and I totally agreed with. Apart from maybe a few points about the Brotherhood, and Jugg's humor. The immatureness doesn't really do it for me. I'm now gonna say a few things, that will show how little I know about the X-men. When was Bishop in it? I never even noticed him. And Psylocke's powers was the shadow-port? I didn't know she could do that. I just thought it was bad characterization in the film, and she was doing a phase thing like Kitty.

I just got back from seeing the film:
I thought it was good. I'll probably watch it again before I make up my mind, but I enjoyed it a lot. I thought the story was good, and well paced, and I liked what happened to most of the characters. Better than X-Men? Definitely. Better than X2? probably not, but on a similar level.
Pros: I liked the fact people died. I liked the fact Cyclops died at the start. For me, his character was just wasted throughout the series, so killing him off made sense. Both him and Xavier gave real weight to the fact Jean had gone very very bad.
I thought the effects were great. Good CGI and good makeup, especially Jean's face and eye makeup. She genuinely looked evil. And the young versions of Magneto and Xavier were amazing! Really well done.
Beast was a welcome addition to the group and the films. Juggernaut also was funny and used to good effect.
Logan once again stole the film and deservedly so. His character has really grown believably throughout the movies.
Cons: Mystique being cured and forgotten. I doubt, even if she was human, that Magneto would leave her. She was far too handy around, regardless of her powers.
A lot of the characters being underused or generally reduced to cameo's: Colossus didn't seem to have any purpose in the film other than to throw Wolverine. There was no point to having him around. A waste especially as he had great potential from X2. Arclight - Again, pointless and wasted as a character. Plus the actress was U-G-L-Y. And Rogue served no other purpose than to be cured. There was no sense of emotion or drama in the choice it was just "I'm off to get cured, bye!"
Pyro: He had totally changed from the second film. In X2, he was lonely, bitter at being shunned for being a mutant, but he still liked his friends. In X3 he hated everyone and just wanted to kill people, mutant or human. I don't buy that as soon as he joined Magneto, he'd suddenly hate Iceman and Rogue. It made no sense, for Magneto certainly wouldn't have made him like that.
Jean didn't really have much character to her other than "look pissed off"
Apart from the pacing of the film being a tad on the fast side, it still rounded off all the storylines well and left a real sense of closure for everything.
But then that ending with Magneto. Killer!
*If* they do end it all with this film then it's a great way to go out. They have done themselves proud.

After seeing the movie again, my rating has gone up to 9/10.
It still moved fast for me, but there was something there that kind of kept it at pace. I can't explain it, but the movie is now better in my eyes.
